Obituary
HOWARD R. SUTTON
TEWKSBURY TWP. -- Howard R. Sutton died peacefully at his home in the Fairmount section of Tewksbury on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007. He was 95.
Howard was born in the same home on June 2, 1912. He attended Fairmount Elementary School and High Bridge High School. He graduated from the Churchman Business School in Easton, the Pace Institute of Accounting in New York City and International Correspondence Schools.
He owned and operated the Howard Sutton Registered Municipal Accountant business for more than 35 years, serving various municipalities and schools throughout the area.
Previously he owned the Howard Sutton coal business in Chester. He was also a partner in the Howard Sutton & Son dairy farm operation on the home farm.
He was the oldest living past master of Prospect Masonic Lodge, F& AM in Chester where he served for more than 50 years. He was a past local president and member of Dairymen's League Cooperative. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Shriners, the Scottish Rite, the Knights Templar, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Fairmount Presbyterian Church and the Chester Volunteer Fire Company.
Howard enjoyed playing cards with friends, gardening and mowing his lawn and working with his son on the farm.
His wife, Clara, died in December 2006. They were married for 73 years.
He is survived by his son, Howard, Jr. and wife Betty of Fairmount; two daughters, Carolyn Smith and husband Joseph of Fairmount and Phyllis Gilpin and husband Wilmer of Towanda, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 at noon in the Fairmount Cemetery, Tewksbury, followed by a memorial and Masonic service at 12:30 p.m. in the Fairmount Presbyterian Church, 247 Old Turnpike Road.
Memorial donations can be sent to the Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington 08822 or to the Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad, Box 297, Califon 07830.
Arrangements are by Coughlin Funeral Home, Califon.
