The church records of Glauchau only show one Johanna Christina Seifert who was born in 1720, but her father was David, not Daniel. This David indeed exists; he was born in 1664. But there is only a Daniel who was born in 1669; he married in 1699 and had children. Johanna Christina probably was his daughter; her marriage entry explicitly mentions her father as Daniel Seiffert, cloth maker. The christening entry seems to be missing for an unknown reason; probably it simply was forgotten by the minister.

One Paul Seiffert, son of the cloth maker Hans Seiffert, is a sponsor at a christening in 1633. Either of the two can be the one who married in 1634, and without death entries (beginning only in 1680) or any other additional information it is impossible to say which is the right one. In case 1, the marriage of 1634 would be Paul's second marriage, in case 2, it would be his first.

As researcher is not sufficiently familiar with the local customs in the Remse area, she is not sure which of the two pretty contradictory meanings is correct here, but she tends to believe he was a full-scale farmer - a local administrator like Michael Landgraf would have had no reason to marry a day labourer's daughter.

  3. [S1] Sabine Schleichert, "Otto Family Research". Theoretically, this death entry might also refer to Elisabeth Rüger. The mixing up of given names often happens. On the other hand, from Johann Ernst's marriage entry we know that the father must have been married twice, because he is mentioned as a son from the first marriage, which makes sense only if the father was married more than once. Also, this Eva is about ten years younger than her husband, which also fits better to a second wife who often is younger than the widower who marries a second time. For this reason, it is assumed that Eva is the second wife of Gottfried Ernst, and that, therefore, the first wife Elisabeth Rüger must have died quite some time before 1735.
