The Hunterdon Democrat was formed September 5, 1838 at Flemington, New Jersey. In 1847, the name was changed to the Hunterdon County Democrat which title still is being used (1975). The initial annual subscription rate for those who received their papers by private post was $2.00

    Microfilm copies of the Hunterdon County Democrat newspaper are available at the State Archives, Trenton, NJ. These may also be purchased through the Archives.  Over the past few years I acquired microfilm copies of the paper (1838-1900) for the purpose of extracting family information.  However, as I began the effort of extracting family data, I saw value in extracting all genealogical data, regardless of family relationship.

    I now make this information available to anyone interested.  I do not guarantee that all pertinent information has been extracted from the records, but I have made every effort to extract, marriage, death, and other bits of information I felt might be useful.  The majority of the information presented is exactly as printed by the editor, including spelling and typo errors.  Hopefully my typing errors are few.  The majority of articles are as printed in their entirety however, some articles have been capsulated due to article length or information contained therein.  If anyone would like the full extract of a particular article, please contact me at: njsutton@njsuttonfamily.org.  I will make every effort to respond to your mail and provide a complete extract.
