Mr. R. was born in Hunterdon Co., N.J. in the year 1781. He was a true patriot and a soldier of 1812. He removed to this town in 1824 and was a resident nearly 40 years..

Sudden Death
On Monday of last week while a man by the of Gilbert Cronce, living near Croton was engaged in gathering Oats for Mr. Bateman Hockenbury, complained of not feeling well and was advised by Mr. H. to go to the house. He started for the house but before reaching it fell dead. It is supposed his death was caused by the extreme heat. Deceased was about 55 years of age.

Horrible Accident at Craneville
The village of Craneville, Union Co., on the lines of the Central Railroad, was the scene of a horrid accident on Monday night 7th inst. Mr. J. A. Baldwin, keeper of a grocery, was drawing some kerosene oil from a barrel for a customer between 8 and 9 o'clock when it caught fire and exploded, probably instantly killing him, and setting the building on fire. The house, in which were both store and dwelling, was entirely consumed, together with the body of the unfortunate man nothing now marking the spot but a charred mass of ruins. A portion only of the stock in the store and furniture in the dwelling was saved. Mr. Baldwin the deceased, was formerly a resident of Newark. He was postmaster at Craneville and also ticket agent for the Central Railroad Co.

Death from Somnambulism
On Wednesday night last, Daniel Barr (son of John Barr, keeper of "Mechanics Hall", on the corner of Albany and Peace streets in this City) while in a state of somnolence walked out of a second story window, and fell on the pavement below. He was injured on the hands, head, and inwardly, so much as to cause his death, which took place on Saturday morning at seven o'clock. (New Brunswick Fredonian).

Mr. James Callis, one of the oldest inhabitants of Flemington, died suddenly at his residence on Thursday morning, 11th inst. His disease was supposed to be dropsy. Deceased was in the 62nd year of his age.

Shot Dead
A private by the name of Williams, belonging to Capt. Sine's company, (E,) was shot dead on Saturday evening last. It appears that Williams had assaulted Captain Angel, when the latter drew his revolver and shot him through the heart. He was buried on Sunday afternoon in the Presbyterian burying-ground, in this place.

Death of Dr. John S. Darcy
The venerable Dr. Darcy of Newark, died on Thursday, the 29th ult., at the ripe age of 76, of paralysis, after an illness of a few days. He was a native of Morris County, and had resided in Newark for about thirty years. He was the only President the New Jersey Railroad Company ever had. He was buried on the following Monday, according to the Masonic ritual of burial.

Mrs. Catherine Shepperd died at her residence in Hudson City, a few days ago, at the advanced age of one hundred years, six months, and five days.
