    Judge C. H. Valentine died suddenly at his residence in Hackettstown, on Thursday

Murder and Suicide

    Christian Breitlauch, a German physician of Temperanceville, Allegheny county, Pa., on
Friday last, shot his wife while she was sitting in the presence of her children and afterwards
shot himself. The children ran for assistance after the death of their mother, and when the
neighbors arrived both husband and wife were found dead within a few feet of each other.

    Asa Hann, late of the township of Kingwood, in the county of Hunterdon, and State of New
Jersey, having died intestate, seized in fee simple of two certain tracts of land in the township
of Kingwood, aforesaid. The one tract containing about one hundred acres, adjoining lands of
Thomas Martin, Charles Kugler and others. The other tract containing about six acres,

Suicide at Hackensack.

    Mr. Henry E. Banta, an old resident of Hackensack, committed suicide between 1 and 2
o'clock on Wednesday morning last. The manner of committing this melancholy act was very
peculiar. He had rowed out into the middle of the Hackensack river near the new bridge, and
having tied a large stone to a rope and fastened one end of it to the boat, he then by a double
timber hitch, fastened the rope to his right leg and went overboard. No cause is assigned for
the commission of this rash deed.

Found Dead

    On Wednesday morning last, the body of a Mr. Isaac Smith was found lying in a gutter on
the premises of O. Kugler, Esq., near Quick's Mills. It appears that Mr. Smith had been
working for Mr. Kugler the day previous and it is supposed that about evening he was on his
way home and fell from the effect of heart disease. Miller Kline, Esq., was called to view the
body, and found his death occurred as above stated.
 

Death of Judge Clawson

    Hon. William S. Clawson, one of the Judges of the Supreme Court of this State died
Tuesday morning at his residence, Woodstown, Salem County.

late John W. Leslie, of Brooklyn.
 

Died

    In Flemington, on the 5th inst., of consumption, Charles Suydam, aged 41 years, 7 months
and five days.

Sudden Death

    We are informed that on last Thursday Evening, while the wife of John Sharpe of
Readington, was preparing for Church, she was seized with a paralytic fit and dropped into a
chair which happened to be near by. Her husband, who was in the room, noticing the strange
conduct of his wife, hastened to her side and disconvered that she was unconscious. He
immediately laid her upon a settee, but before a physician could be procured she expired.

    On the 24th ult., by the Rev. Thomas Swaim, Mr. John L. Volk to Miss Ellen S. Leigh both

    At Rahway, Nov. 18th, Daniel Vansyckel, formerly of this County, aged 71 years. Interred in
Hazlewood Cemetry, near Rahway, New Jersey.

    On Monday, the 2nd inst., at his residence on the "Union Farm", near Clinton, Hugh
Exton, aged 61 years.

Died

    In Kingwood township, of typhoid fever, Nov. 22d, Aaron Buffer, aged 25 years.

    In the same place, Nov. 24th, of typhoid fever, Eveline, wife of Aaron Buffer. They were both
buried in one grave, by the members of Magnolia Large, No. 57, I.O.O.F., of which Mr. B. was
a member.

    In Kingwood township, Nov. 26th, at the residence of Geo. T. Srope, of consumption,
Ferdinand Srope, aged 60 years.

    In Kingwood township of Typhoid fever, Nov. 30, Francis, son of William and Lucy Buffer,
aged 4 years.

    In Kingwood township, Dec. 3d, of typhoid fever, Peter Stull, aged 25 years.

    In Kingwood township, Dec. 9th, of typhoid fever, Mary, daughter of Clarkson and Luvina
Eick, aged 18 months.

    In Kingwood township, Nov. 30, Daniel Opdycke, aged 95 years. He was the oldest resident
of the township.

    At his residence in Lebanon, on Friday, Dec. 6th, David M. Kline, aged 77 years.

Death of George A. Vroom, Esq.

    George A. Vroom, Esq., died of typhoid fever at his residence in New Brunswick, on
Saturday, 14th inst. Mr. Vroom was a highly respectalbe member of the N.J. Bar, to which he
was admitted in 1833 and at the time of his death was Clerk of Middlesex Co. Mr. Vroom was
a son of the late Guisbert B. Vroom, of New York, and a nephew of the Hon. Peter D. Vroom, of
this State.

Flemington.

    December 13th by Rev. J. Kirkpatrick, Mr. George A. Capner, to Miss Delie Hopewell, both

    In Middletown Point, on Sunday evening, Dec, 15th, 1861, of typhoid fever, Joanna, eldest
daughter of Jacob R. and Lanor Jane Schenck, aged 8 year, 4 months and 7 days.

    At Clover Hill, on Sunday December 15th, of Rheumatism, striking to the heart, William
Titus, aged 52 years, 9 months, and 15 days.
