Death of Judge Nevius
The death of this good man and upright Judge is announced as having occurred at Jersey City on Wednesday last, in the 64th year of his age. Judge Nevius was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court (under the old Constitution) on the 15th of November 1838, and held that position two terms, 14 years....

Burnt to Death
On last Sunday, Mrs. Hester Stout, whose residence was near Tidde's School House in Hopewell township, Mercer county (near our county line) met with an awful death from her clothes being set on fire in some unknown manner. Her daughter had left her alone for a short time, and when she returned her mother was dead. Mrs. Stout was 91 years of age and was well known in the township where she lived and my many in our own county. She had for a number of years received a pension on account of the services rendered to our Government by her husband, who was a carter in the American Revolution.

We learn that one evening last week a Miss Eick, of Baptisttown was carrying a fluid lamp across the room when an explosion took place, and her dress was soon enveloped in a flame, which fortunately was soon extinguished by some persons near with but little injury to the lady.

Affecting Death
Mr. Mahlon Barber, a worthy farmer of Sparta township, in this county, aged 40 years, recently exhibited symptoms of inacuity, which continued to increase in intensity, until last week it was deemed judicious to place him in the Lunatic Asylum. He was conveyed to that institution on Thursday, and on Saturday morning was found dead in his bed. He was affected with a pulmonary complaint, and a few days before his death refused to take any sustenance... (Sussex Register).

Death of Hon. Eli Moore.
The Hon. Eli Moore died at Leeompton, Kansas on the 26th ult. Mr. Moore was a native of this State, born in the Township of Kingwood, in this County. He was a practical Printer, having served his apprenticeship in Newton, Sussex Co., N.J. and afterwards removed to New York City. In 1838, we believe it was, he was elected to Congress from that city. He afterwards removed to Belvidere, N.J., and became editor of the Warren Journal. He received the appointment of Register of Land in Kansas from Franklin Pierce, and held the appointment until his death.

The body of Wm. Sharp, Jr., son of Judge Jacob Sharp of Belvidere, was found on Tuesday evening near the Railroad Bridge at Easton. The body was in a solid condition his skull cracked and brains out and one are broken.

Suicide
A lady named Susan Walter, residing in Pahaquarry township, Warren county, committed suicide on Wednesday morning, 25th ult., by cutting her throat from ear to ear. She also inflicted several severe gashes upon other portions of her person. She had been laboring for some time under a temporary insanity.
Joseph Wood, for several years Mayor of Trenton, and uncle of Mayor Wood of New York, died at his residence in Trenton on Wednesday morning the 8th inst.

A Batch of Horrors
Wm R. Gambling, one of the residents of this neighborhood, who has long been known and will long be remembered under the cognomen of "Old Rock", committed suicide at the Bridgewater Township Poor House on Friday last. The deceased had been taken to the poor farm on Thursday; on Friday he hung himself in the upper part of the wagon house with a chain about two feet long, which he passed between the rafters and looping together, put his head through, and dropping upon his knees effected the deed.
On the same day, Michael Field, living between Boundbrook and New Brunswick, along the Raritan River, committed suicide by hanging himself. The deceased was aged about eighty years.
Another, Wm. Hoff, who lately moved into town on the first of April, from Blackwell's Mills, near Millstone, committed suicide by cutting his throat. He commited the act on Monday night, and lingered until Tuesday night, when he died.
We learn that a man named Kline, residing near Centerfille, attempted to kill his wife by poison, one day last week, which he administered for medicine. He has fled.
It is reported that a German committed suicide by shooting himself on the mountain near Martinwille, on Friday last. We did not learn his name. (Somerset Messenger).

Man Killed This Morning
Mr. C. Styles a highly respectable and wealthy farmer living in the vicinity of New Hampton, N.J., about seventy-five years of age, was instantly killed this morning by jumping from the Harrisburg Express train, near the Hampton station, while it was running about twenty-five miles an hour. He was at the rear car and jumped off as the train neared the station, killing himself instantly.

The Wife Poisoner, Execution of Harden
Harden's execution took place at 1:35 P.M. (6 July) He made no speech as had been anticipated. He remained suspended twelve minutes, when the physicians pronounced him dead. The body was then lowered to the ground and placed in the coffin... Mr. Dorland, father of Mrs. Harden wanted to be admitted to witness the execution. At the request of Harden he was refused....

Melancholly Burning Fluid Accident
On Thursday evening, Sep. 20, Mrs. Derrick Mattis, of Branchburgh, attempted to fill a fluid lamp when lighted; it took fire in an instant. She and her four children under six years of age, and a daughter of F. S. Mattis, ten years old, were enveloped in flames. Before assistance could be rendered they were so badly burned that two of her children and the little niece who was with her on a visit have since died. Mrs. Mattis is badly burned. The two surviving children are doing as well as could be expected.

Sheriff's Sale.
By virtue of a write of Fi. Fa. to me directed issued on the Court of Chancery of the State of New Jersey, will be exposed to sale at public vendue, on Saturday, the eighth day of December next, between the hours of twelve and five o'clock in the afternoon of said day, on the premises in the township of Kingwood, in the county of Hunterdon, all that certain lot or parcel of land situate in the township and county aforesaid, bounded as follows: Beginning at a stone in the great road in Richard Opdycke's line, and corner of Dr. William R. Hand's land, and thence by siad Hand's land west fifteen chains and fifty links to a stone also a corner of said Hand's land; thence (2) by his and other lands north fifty minutes west forty-five chains and thirteen links to a stone in Abel Welster's line; thence (3) by the same east six chains and fifty-three links to a stone corner of John Kugler's land; thence (4) by the said Kugler's land south twenty-four degrees and thirty minutes east twenty-one chains, to a stone, another corner of said Kugler; thence (5) south forty-two degrees and fifty minutes east fourteen chains and four links, to another corner of said Kugler, in the great road; thence (6) by lands of John Kugler and Richard Opdycke south twenty and one-half degrees west, supposed to be about eighteen chains to the place of beginning - containing sixty six acres of land, be the same more or less. Seized as the property of William S. Sutton, et al, and taken in execution at the suit of Elisha Warford, and to be sold by Robert Thatcher, Sheriff.
