A Double Yelked Turkey. - We have been informed from a reliable quarter, that Wm. S. Sutton, near Baptisttown, Kingwood Township, in this County, sold recently in New York City, a Turkey for $100, its weight being about 40 lbs. Mrs. S. also raised some ten or a dozen of the same breed, weighing from twenty to thirty lbs each. They are of the South Caroline double yelked breed. It is said that there never has been such a large Turkey in New York City, nor one that commanded such a large price. If our New  England people could get such large Turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner, one would be sufficient for a whole neighborhood.
 

Mr. Jacob Wortendyke. - An old resident of Washington township, Bergen county, N.J. died on the 18th inst., at the advanced age of 95 years. His conjugal partner, who survives him, is several years younger. They have lived together as husband and wife for nearly seventy years...
Among his grandchildren is the Hon. J.R. Wortendyke, of the Fifth Congressional district of New Jersey.

    At Mount Pleasant N.J. on Thursday, morning the 27th ult. Sam. C. Eckel aged 47 years 11 months and 17 days...

    At Raritan, January 22nd, Clara M. Bartolette, aged 8 years and 3 months.

    Also, January 23d, Arthur W. Bartolette, aged 7 years and three months. These afflicted children had been suffering from a protracted attack of Pertussis, which occasioned them much suffering, when an inflamatory condition of the lungs supervened, resulting in acute Pneumonia. Scarcely had the symptoms of Pneumonia became fully developed when both the little suffers broke out with the Measels, which proved extremely obstinate, and these two were complicated with that malday so justly dreaded by parents, the Scarlet Fever. From the attack of Pnemonia it was but seventy-two hours before all the diseases were fully developed, the inflamatory condition of the lungs taking the predominance over the other, and was much heightened and aggravated by them.... On the succeeding Monday, Jan. 24th, the funeral services were performed at the Baptist Church at Somerville, by the Pastor, Rev. J. N. Folwell. Thence the little corpses were removed (lying side by side in one coffin like two sleeping cherube) to the village cemetery at Somerville, and committed to their final resting place...

    At her residence in Union township, on the 5th February, Mrs. Sarah Bennet, in the 83rd year of her age. She formerly, and in the lifetime of her first husband, Daniel Case, resided in this vicinity, and was a very useful member of society, particularly in sickness, as many of the aged people in this part of the county well remember. In fact, she was a regularly licensed Physician by the laws of the State of New Jersey, as passed in 1816...

    On the 5th inst., after a very protracted illness, Mrs. Jane Merrell, relict of William Merrill, dec'd, in the 84th year of her age... She was the last of the original members of the Baptist church in this place, which was constituted in 1798.

    Departed this life on the 17th ult., at his late residence near Reaville, in this county, Mr. John E. Holcombe, in the 51st year of his age. The deceased united with the 1st Presbyterian Church of Amwell 30 years ago, and has ever since maintained the character of a consistent, demoted, and active christian...

Death by Poisoning
    The wife of the Rev. J. S. Harden, near Andersontown, Warren county, was suddenly taken ill on the 7th inst., and died in a few hours. A post mortem examination revealed the fact that she had been poisoned by arsenic, and suspicions were fastened upon her husband as the poisoner.... On Monday, 14th, Mr. Harden left, and disfigured himself with some different wearing apparel, and took passage from Asbury Station early on Tuesday morning for New York on the Central Railroad. The fact  of this escape was telegraphed to various stations along the road, and a melainotype likeness of him was sent on the the Chief of Police, at New York. Gov. Newell was immediately informed of the facts, when he offered a reward of $500 for his apprehension and conviction. Also, the County of Warren have offered a reward of $500 for the same.
Since the above was in type, we learn that the villian has been caught in Upper Canada.

Terrible Accident - Man Cut in Two
    Last evening about 6 o'clock, a most terrible accident occurred on the Central Railroad, this side of Bloomsbury, about seven miles from Easton, by which a man named Thomas Comfort was instantly killed and his body nearly severed in twain. The particulars as gathered by our reporter, who was on the spot, are briefly as follows:
    Comfort, who was a laborer on the road, was with others returning home from his day's work on the gravel train. Observing a hog on the track in front, he inclined his body over the side of the car to drive it off; at the same time the car passed over the animal, and the jar thus caused threw Comfort on the track, when the wheels passed over him, crushing his head, thigh and legs, and as before mentioned, almost severing his body - presenting a spectacle awful to behold.
    Dr. Bergin, who was in the neighborhood, was called in to restore the parts to the natural position that the body might be seen by the family and friends, which was very neatly and artfully performed. Deceased leaves a wife and two children, who are almost frantic with grief.

    Near Wertsville, N.J., on Sunday, August 7th, James Wyckoff, in the 53rd year of his age. Mr. Wyckoff was born in the fall of 1806. He experienced religion and united with the Baptist Church at Wertsville about 28 years ago. Sometime since he was chosen a Deacon of this church, ... For several months preceeding his decease, he had been sorely afflicted with a cancer in one of his eyes ... His wife survives him, together with four children ...

Shocking Accident
    Robert B. Cook, a little son of Robert Cook whilst playing upon the arch of one of the Bridges on the line of the Warren Rail Road of N.J., near Washington, in Warren Co., on Saturday the 27th ult., lost his balance and fell a distance of 25 feet, sustaining a compound fracture of his left thigh and left arm. Doctors Cook & Glen were immediately called who set and dressed the fractured limbs in such a skillful manner that four days after the accident occured, the stays were taken off of the arm.

    Samuel Coleman, a farmer who resided in Warren county, about three miles above Phillipsburg, was found dead in the culvert of the Belvidere road, about two miles above Phillipsburg, on Wednesday last. He was a very intemperate man, and it is supposed that
liquor and exposure to the storm were the causes of his death.

Death of an Aged Minister
    Rev. Edward Stout, the oldest member of the New Jersey Annual Conference of the M.E. Church, died at his residence in Haddonfield, on Thursday the 3rd inst, at 1 o'clock.... He was in the seventy-fourth year of his age, and has been in the ministry forty-six years.
 

Another Victim to Burning Fluid
    Wednesday evening last, a young lady at Middletown Point, Monmouth Co., daughter of Daniel Strong, attempted to light a fluid lamp while the screw was loose. The fluid in the lamp caught fire, which frightened the girl, and she let it fall. Immediately it exploded and set her dress on fire. She was rescued from her awful situation soon after, but so much burned she died in great agony in a few hours.
